When Anne Hathaway is ready to promote a movie, nothing can stop her. Sure, the COVID-19 crisis has upended traditional press tours, but that didn’t stop the actress from marking the release of her latest film, The Witches, with a fabulous look. The spooky reimagining of the Roald Dahl classic sees Hathaway take on the role of villain as the formidable Grand High Witch, a well-dressed but wicked sorceress who is eager to rid the world of children.
Hathaway got into the over-the-top nature of the part, and when it came time for its release, she and stylist Rebecca Corbin Murray found a fittingly fabulous gown. They then staged a special photoshoot on the roof of London fashion institution Harrods to capture the moment and entice Hathaway’s millions of followers.
Shot by Greg Williams in a ruffled crimson number from Ralph and Russo’s Fall 2019 couture collection, Hathaway delivered movie star magic. The gown’s vibrancy captured her character’s outré sensibility and the kind of high drama fashion that resonates online. With many press events canceled due to safety concerns, stars have been more active than ever on social media, and it’s changed the way they dress.
