Sekulow shoots down Trump attending impeachment trial
Jay Sekulow, one of the president’s attorneys representing him in the trial, shut down the idea of Trump appearing at his trial.
Asked about Trump’s remarks earlier Wednesday where he noted his counsel may advise against appearing, Sekulow smiled. “His counsel might,” he said. “That’s not the way it works. I mean, Presidents don’t do that.”
Sekulow outlined a two-pronged approach in the defense they would present, explaining they would first respond to the house managers then “we are going to make an affirmative case defending the president.”
He declined to say whether Hunter Biden should be called to testify, saying their team was waiting to see the full case from the house managers.
