Trump to present ‘Trump Cup’ to sumo wrestling champ while at tournament in Japan

The prize for a major sumo wrestling competition in Japan will bear President Donald Trump’s name.

The president will present the winning trophy, dubbed the “Trump Cup,” to the winner of the Grand Sumo Tournament, according to a report from Asahi Shimbun.

The sumo wrestling tournament coincides with Trump’s trip to the G-20 summit in Japan, which the president will attend between May 25-28. The final day of the sumo wrestling competition is May 26.

Last month, the president told reporters while meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe that the two would likely go to a sumo wrestling match during Trump’s visit to Japan.

“I always found that fascinating,” the president said of sumo wrestling.

He also said that the trophy would be made in the United States.

“In fact, we’re having a trophy made in this country. We’re going to give the trophy to the winner of the championship,” Trump said. “So that will be good, and I’m sure the media will like that.”

“I think it’s something I’ll enjoy very much,” he concluded.
