Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of The Little Mermaid has already cast its Ariel: Halle Bailey, of Chloe x Halle, will star as the iconic mermaid who saves a prince from drowning and then makes a deal with a sea witch to exchange her voice for legs so that she can walk around on—what do you call them? Oh, feet!—and truly be with him. Now the search is on for who will play Prince Eric in the film. Reports are currently circulating that Harry Styles is in early negotiations for the role.
Styles is obviously a perfect choice for the role—it’s a musical, and he’s a heartthrob who can sing. His whole vibe is also just downright regal. But if these negotiations end up fizzling, fear not: It’s an ideal time to break the Disney-prince mold. Just think of the possibilities! What if Prince Eric were to be Ezra Miller, one of Hollywood’s most exciting queer stars? Or there’s always the Internet’s collective boyfriends Timothée Chalamet or Noah Centineo.
